A Blessed Life

{95th birthday}

Doesn't my Grandma look amazing in this picture taken just a couple years ago from her 95th birthday?  Hard to believe she was five years from 100 and still looking so beautiful.  That is the testimony of a life well lived.  A blessed life that exudes sweetness on the face and lots of love with every smile.  A few days after the new year my Grandma went to be with the Lord.  She was 97.  We knew her time was getting short and the Lord was gracious to give us time to see her one last time.  And we got to introduce our daughter to her right before Christmas.  Grandma Jean was an August baby just like our sweet Sienna.

There are a few things I'll always remember about Grandma.  She was a reader.  She always had a book sitting on her kitchen table that she was working on.  That is why she was so sharp because she kept her mind alert.  After I witnessed her love of reading year after year, it motivated me to become more disciplined and read more.  My aunt recently told me that Grandma would spend an hour a day reading her Bible.  What a wonderful way to spend your time and it showed.

Grandma was one of the sweetest ladies I've ever known.  She was so pleasant to be around.  She had a large family and everyone loved being around Grandma.  That's the picture of how I would like my life to look... lots of family that LOVE being around me.  I remember our last morning together gathered around her kitchen table on a snowy December morning.  I read Psalm 91, Psalm 23 and Romans 8 to her before my dad prayed over her.

"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall he not with Him also freely give us all things?  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  ... in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life... shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

After these words she said, "that is so beautiful."  Yes, Grandma, God's Word is beautiful and so are you.  You are loved and you are missed.  We'll be seeing you again soon.

Be Mine

{First Valentine's Day}

 Sienna turned 6 months old three days before her first Valentine's Day.  Those little hands are grabbing everything these days.  It was so cute to see her pull her pink fish onesie out of her Valentine basket.  She continues to surprise me every day.  This first year has already been filled with so much learning, changing and lots of growing.  I'm so thankful I get to spend every day with her at home soaking up these priceless days.  Sienna Claire, mama and daddy love you so very much.  You have our hearts forever.

Sienna Claire {5 months}

{5 months}

We are officially out of the newborn stage and presently in the interactive infant stage.  This past month has produced so many changes from rolling over from back to tummy to a new sound almost every day.  This month has also been a little challenging in the sleep department but that just means more cuddles with mama both day and night.  A big transition was spreading out her naps from every two to three hours during the day.  All that extra awake time has been filled playing and practicing all her new skills.  I've taken casual shots every month of Sienna for her baby book but this month I decided to dress her up and get a few nicer pictures.  As you can tell half of the pictures are of her feet because I realized I didn't have any close ups of them!  She gets lots of comments on how little her feet are and those hands are just as precious when they are not swallowed up by her sleeves.  She might as well learn early that southern girls wear smocked dresses and ruffles like nobody's business.
