Anniversary Trip: Blackberry Farm Garden Tour

Garden Shed
{Garden Shed}

One of the highlights of our stay at Blackberry Farm was spending the morning in the gardens overlooking the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.  I loved every minute of our two hour garden tour and seed talk.  Row after row of wildflowers surround the Garden Shed where Master Gardener John Coykendall shared his passion for seed saving.  By noon, we both walked away with a little gardening bug and have plans to start a small garden at home.  I also have the perfect spot in mind for a certain pair of blue rocking chairs that will complete our garden (hint, hint).  There's just something about fresh flowers, organic food and outdoor seating that makes time pass slower and life a little sweeter.

Anniversary Trip: Blackberry Farm

Red Barn
{The Barn}

Ever since I discovered Blackberry Farm, it has been on my wish list.  I made the comment before that "just knowing a place like this exists makes me happy." Well, after visiting for a couple nights, I can say this place is a dream.  Our room was absolutely adorable topped with the most comfortable feather bed I've ever slept on.  And without a doubt, The Barn was the most gorgeous restaurant I've ever seen.  I obviously had many "firsts" during our stay because I'll go ahead and add that Blackberry was the most amazing resort we've ever visited.  It truly exceeded all our expectations and was the perfect place to celebrate our 10th anniversary.  I'm afraid all future vacations are ruined.

Anniversary Trip: Biltmore House & Gardens

front of Biltmore House
{Biltmore House}

The Carolinas hold a certain nostalgia for me since they were the destination of many family trips when I was a child.  I only remember visiting the Biltmore once with my family so I was excited to include it on our 10 year anniversary trip to North Carolina.  It was unseasonably cooler during our time in Asheville which made our August vacation that much more enjoyable.  The Biltmore House was as impressive as I remember it to be and the audio tour provided fascinating details about the architecture and artwork of the estate.  The gardens were also a sight to see in the summer.  I'd love to visit again in the spring when the tulips and azaleas are in bloom.  This month (August) the Victoria Water Lilies in the Italian Garden were my favorite since they looked like giant floating cake pans.
