Fall Getaways

This time of year is the ideal time for a weekend getaway to enjoy the cooler weather and changing colors.  My criteria for the perfect fall getaway includes a destination not too far from home to keep the trip relaxed and unscheduled.  No flights to catch and no worries about how much or how little to pack.  Here are a couple of ideas for the budget conscious, the weekend spender, and for those who want to indulge.

1. If you're looking for a quick getaway that doesn't break the bank, head to Mountain Harbor Resort and Spa on Lake Ouachita.  This quaint resort is located 25 miles west of Hot Springs and was voted #1 spa in the South!  Turtle Cove Spa offers many packages for the weekend traveler including their popular I'm On a Budget SPA Package.  Now to find the perfect weekend...

2. If you're up for a splurge, Big Cedar Lodge in the Ozark Mountains, fits the bill.  Located just 10 miles south of Branson, Missouri, this resort offers you a choice of a cozy cottage or a secluded log cabin.  Reservations book up fast so this getaway might need to wait until 2011...

3. If money were no object, you would find me passing the time at Blackberry Farm.  This 4,200 acre estate is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.  Just knowing a place like this exists makes me happy and just visiting their website puts a smile on my face.  Maybe I'll get to visit one day...

  1. We went on a staff retreat to Big Cedar and it was sooo fun! We keep saying we need to go back, but it just hasn't happened yet. We always end up at the beach.
